Stretching Guide from HUMANSA physiotherapist
Live a healthy life

Some surveys have pointed out that, on annual basis, one-quarter of the working time of Hong Kong people was under “sickness”. The estimated annual loss of productivity due to “sick” employees is up to HK$30.6 billion! On the contrary, only 8.9 billion of annual productivity loss was associated with employees taking real sick leave, reflecting only 30% of those who insist "going to work with sickness".

"Work-life Balance" is widely advocated among many overseas experts. For example, scholars at the University of Oxford recommended the implementation of "four-day work ". It is believed that the additional productivity will be generated by employees with adequate rest which is more than enough to offset the impact of sick leave.

Apart from taking adequate rest, a good working posture, balanced diet, and exercise are all important elements to improve one’s health. Recently, Hong Kong employees may work from home and many of them choose to work laying in bed. However, prolonged working in bad postures will bring various pains to the body. One should sit near the headboard to straighten the spine, lift up chest and abdomen, and place personal computer in a proper position.

Physiotherapist from Humansa teaches you how to do stretching to relieve the tension and tight muscles:

Some studies have also found that nearly 80% of Hong Kong's employees indicate that their nutrition is unbalanced which is lacking of whole grains, fruits and vegetables while nearly 60% of them do less than 150 minutes of exercise a week. With an unbalanced and untimely diet, it is no wonder that Hong Kong employees often get sick easily. In addition, 85% of the respondents had one or more musculoskeletal disorders. Don't ignore back pain and bone pain. "Sub-health" may bring negative impact on work commitment.

Basic stretching, aerial yoga or meditation classes are good options to improve overall physical and mental health of employees and get away from the "sub-health" syndrome. Employees with a healthy body and mind can devote themselves to work and improve the overall productivity of the company.
