‘Emerald City’ - The Idea of Translation within Geometry

‘Emerald City’ examines the idea of translation within geometry and compares two important concepts in cultural translation—‘transparency’ and ‘opacity’—by bringing together an impressive array of works of contemporary art including paintings, videos, sculptures, and site-specific installations by artists from China and other parts of the world.

Both as a branch of mathematics and as a basis for other fields of study, geometry constitutes an integral part of our earthly existence. Based on the observations that artists reveal in their works, KAF’s upcoming group exhibition ‘Emerald City’ seeks to construct a geometric vocabulary suited to the needs of this time and age for a better understanding of our relationships with other beings on earth. ‘Emerald City’ will open on 27 March. Some of the participating artists, including Ashley Bickerton, will be with us.
