Do you know the benefit of Christmas diet?

Christmas food always gives an unhealthy impression as they are cooked with lots of sugar, butter and cream. You may follow the smell of delicious Christmas sins in the air and eat more than usual. However, do you know some Christmas foods are actually beneficial to health?

Turkey is rich in protein. A palm-sized turkey can provide 30 grams of protein while consists of 3 grams of fat only. It is also rich in zinc and selenium which will boost immunity and fight against bacterial infections during winter. Selenium is also a powerful antioxidant that can effectively reduce the risk of cancer.

Cranberry sauce is commonly paired with turkey. It contains vitamin C and antioxidant anthocyanin. Medical research indicates that cranberries are effective in preventing inflammation of the urethra and bladder; in addition, it contains antioxidants that reduce heart disease, cancer and other aging diseases caused by cellular oxidation.

Starchy vegetables such as potato, carrot and pumpkin are served as side dishes in the Christmas meal. They contain less fat while rich in carbohydrates, cellulose, potassium and vitamin C. Carrots and pumpkins also contain lots of carotene which keep the eyes healthy and maintain optimum vision. Cellulose can stimulate intestinal peristalsis and prevent constipation and colorectal cancer.

Christmas is the time for raising glasses but don’t forget that alcoholic beverages contain calories from 100 calories to 500 calories per cup. It is more preferable to have red wine instead of other alcoholic beverages as it contains resveratrol and it brings benefit to heart. Strong spirits, liqueurs and cocktails with lots of sugar are not recommended.

Although some food in the Christmas feast are beneficial to health, moderation and a balanced dietary pattern are however the most important points when it comes to smart eating. Fend off holiday weight gain by staying more active and doing workouts to burn calories are always great ideas after having too many big meals!
