Delicate Handcrafted Bamboo Steamer
With over 50 years of craftsmanship

Bamboo steamer is always seen as a perfect match with dim sum as it preserves the original flavour of food through its air-permeable texture and the fragrance of bamboo.

Tuck Chong Sum Kee Bamboo Steamer Co is one of the very few remaining handicraft bamboo steamer shops that keep the tradition alive in Hong Kong. Originated from Guangzhou and relocated to Hong Kong in the late 1950s, the shop has been established in Sai Ying Pun for over 30 years.

The 5th generation successor of the shop, Lam Ying Hung said the artisan must display fine and excellent craftsmanship in handcrafting every detail of the steamer.

Equipped with a bamboo knife, drill, wooden clip and wooden board, the skilled artisan has shown us the traditional way to make a steamer: drill the holes on the steamer and bamboo nails are then hammered in to fix the shape.
